Families coping with Autism through Faith and Prayer
II Corinthians 1: 3 - 4 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; Who comforts us in all of our affliction, that we may be able to comfort them that are in any affliction, through the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
It's possible that the increase in autism in these latter days may very well lead humanity to a cure. In the meantime, families are learning how to cope with the devastating news of an autism diagnosis through faith and prayer. Many are coming to accept that their loved one has an autism spectrum disorder. However, many may find it difficult to attend or bring their loved ones to church. Oftentime, the behaviors related with autism may present challenges for the family church experience as well as the church members. Many families recognize their need for a place of spiritual refuge and nurturing - in some cases - for the first time in their lives, when they have children especially with autism. Some are being asked to leave or they feel so uncomfortable especially at a time when they are in the most need. It is so important for churches to step up to the plate and be Christ's example in the Earth. For so long, it has been preached, so now let walk the talk! Just as the educational systems are being more inclusive, so must the church. For those who desire to offer prayer about autism, we have this:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Forgive us for our sins. We have not looked to you for the answers with this disorder referred to as autism. Our prayer is that you will lead us to find a cure for autism. Father, you made us, you know each cell of our body. You know where autism originates, you know what goes wrong in people with autism, you alone know what will cure this disorder. We pray for your divine intervention for all children and adults with autism. Give the familes strength to deal with autism on a daily basis. Give them your wisdom and lead them to people who will truly have their best interest at heart.
We pray that you give the researchers direction, and that you will help them to be humble and to seek your face. Bring understand among the connections among the biological, physical, chemical and immunological finds in autism reasearch. Open their eyes to find new connections and to assist parents and caregivers to share their own personal discoveries and findings. We also pray for cooperation among the researchers, lawmakers, healthcare providers and givers, and all who are involved in the care of the persons diagnosed with this disorder. We give you the glory for this cure. We thank you for hearing our prayers and for having mercy on the thousands of children and adults with autism. We pray this prayer in the name of Jesus Christ.
